The Needs of a Professional Photographer

Becoming a professional photographer can be a rewarding and lucrative career choice. There are several different directions to choose from, such as using cameras or the new technology of drones. Either way, some skill and knowledge of editing will also be required. The initial shot is very rarely the finished product. There is plenty of software available to help with the editing process, both for Mac and Windows, and some programmes are free.

Cameras

When it comes to traditional photography, many experts claim that a 35mm camera is still the best option. A digital SLR camera is also a valuable addition to a photographer's toolbox. Personal preference will determine whether a fixed lens is the way to go and if an inbuilt light meter meets all the necessary requirements. Further accessories can add to the experience, such as a tripod. Variable shutter speed is also essential if photographing sports events, for example.

Drones

Drone photography may be relatively new, but the stunning aerial shots that can be achieved have proved its merit. However, there are some practicalities to consider, not least of which is the need for a licence. There are also safety considerations and the option of certification for commercial drone photography. The drone itself can be an expensive piece of equipment, and extensive research will be required to select the appropriate model.

Whether choosing cameras or drones, the art of photography undoubtedly requires creativity, patience, communication skills and an eye for perspective.
